Fall Favorites

Here at MZ Glassworks we love fall and decorating for the season.

So far, there’s only the stray leaf on the sidewalk that has turned from summer green to having a tinge of yellow, red or rust. Or something inbetween.

But inside MZ Glassworks we’ve got a great assortment of leaf lightcatchers, glass chimes and other seasonal favorites.

Be wise, avoid stepping inside a brick and mortar shop. We will ship them right to you, no risk involved.

Early Bird Selection

Are you one of those shoppers who has all their gifts purchased, wrapped and stashed by Labor Day? If so your deadline is growing closer. In light of things that transpired in 2020, on-line shopping will be ever more popular.

We at MZ Glassworks just wanted to put a little bug in your ear. If you haven’t visited our portfolio of products, please do so because it’s grown throughout the year! We have all kinds of holiday ornaments for every season, as well as horses and hounds, light catchers for birders, home and garden decor items with stained glass, designs of regional interest, and we are always faithful to those who wish to hang a religious icon, such as crosses, angels, biblical figures. We even have lanterns to light up someones life.

Happy Shopping, and we applaud all early bird shoppers. As you have heard before “A Christmas shopper’s complaint is one of long-standing.”  Shopping early means you are being thoughtful to your postal and delivery service workers who are often overloaded during the holidays.

Honoring Uniqueness

“Create your own style..let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” – Anna Wintour

Some months ago MZ Glassworks was approached by a woman who said she wanted to have a custom transom made. Margy gave the potential client her business card. True to her word, the lady followed up with a phone call. Marge went to the woman’s place of residence and took measurements and they discussed the colors, look and feel of the stained glass transom window the lady desired. Her place of residence was not of cookie cutter design so it was clear why she desired a handcrafted, one of a kind design.

Today we’d simply like to share a photo of the latest custom designed transom window which was made in MZ Glassworks studio.

Featuring a New Design

“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.” – Milton Glaser

For quite sometime I’ve had it in my mind that I wanted to design a triptych. It’s taken awhile to take my vision and turn it into three panels which are as nice hanging individually as they are all three together. Well, here it is!

I’m pleased with the result and look forward to featuring it in my collection of stained glass light catchers, panels, transoms, wind chimes, lanterns and lampshades which I will have with me this Saturday at the Carroll County Ag Center in Westminster, Maryland. The venue is partially open air and all attending must abide by state regulations regarding social distancing.

Stop by and say hello.  We have quite a few new products and designs since last year!! And if the market is like anything in previous summers, there are wonderful wares – produce right from the farm, baked goods and many craft vendors. Hop in the car and come on out!

Stained Glass Vacation

I don’t know about you but I’ve been thinking about the options for summer vacation this year. Staying safe from viruses is priority for many families. Indeed a pandemic world has put a stain on the annual beach vacation.

According to the news there has been an increased planting of victory gardens. Perhaps a stay-cation to tend to your fruits and veggies is the best option since you went to all lengths to get the garden going. Sustain your investment!

This beach themed light catcher from MZ Glassworks will remind your disappointed family members there is always next year. Hang the decoration with the promise that next years beach vacation will be better than ever because the heart grows fonder when something is absent.

One Thing Leads to Another

Ok, so now you have our latest product for your garden – a beautifully handcrafted garden lantern with fused glass or stained glass windows. Your garden looks so pretty!

You like it! And now you are thinking you need something more to go with it. You know how that is – Often, we get a new piece of clothing and then suddenly we want something else to enhance or accessorize it.

Any of these hit your fancy? We love how these can be incorporated into a garden shed window or door.

Here’s a creative idea how our herb panels can be incorporated into a greenhouse. Your garden space would be the pride of the neighborhood with some stained glass embellishment!

This Little Light of Mine

I don’t know about you but I am counting the days until it is warm enough in the evening to sit outside. We have been spending a massive about of time indoors between the pandemic orders and the cloudy, cool weather.

While in the studio I have been crafting unique fused glass and stained glass windows for lanterns designed for indoor or outdoor livin’. Put them on your patio, along your garden path, or anywhere your little heart desires!

Here are pictures of a few styles but more are on our product page. Contact us and we will be happy to light up your life by sending your preferred lantern for your deck or indoor table!

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, this little light of mine…I’m gonna let it shine!”

Bloomin’ Brightly

When we look around and see all the beautiful blooming trees this time of year, it’s a reminder of what’s to come. In our region, they say it’s safe to plant flowers outdoors by Mothers Day.

At MZ Glassworks we’ve brought our pretty posies to the forefront. Today’s showcase is all about our floral designs. Our bright flowers are a welcomed sighting in the windows of homes. They will add cheer even on the darkest days.

Here are just a few:

Raise Them Up

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up”

The occurrences cited in the bible which happened in ancient times during the Advent and Easter Season are hard for adults to grasp, never mind trying to explain the mysterious to little children. So sometimes we must think outside the box to bring stories alive to children through different mediums.

Every so often I work with youth in our church, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, to do art projects which reflect the season.  I enjoy kids and seeing their creativity put to good use. But I also offer my experience because art can be a very useful tool in augmenting a Christian curriculum.

Today I have hunted down a few projects with stained glass effects which kindergarten children can do with adult supervision. The basics of the project can be found on this website.

Come on back next week! As with most artists even as an adult, my art education continues. Next week I’ll let you in on an April workshop I am attending which will focus on creating with slightly different form of glass. I’ve been planning on this workshop for quite sometime and it is drawing closer. Looking forward to being with you next time.
